sewing & wiring (2015)

For centuries until the first half of the twentieth century, common women in Korea lived under a constrained social atmosphere and sumptuary laws. They wore muted colours and were taught to be patient, frugal and obedient. They sublimated their woes and pathos into a unique form of textile/thread art. wired_Jogakbo reinterprets this Gyu-bang (women’s quarter) art into a hybrid form with the use of colourful glow wires. @exhibition
